49th edition of the Deauville American Film Festival

Since its creation in September 1975, the American Film Festival of Deauville has been the unmissable cinematographic event of the fall in Normandy. With the presentation of more than 100 films and the presence of American actors and directors, the Festival highlights the diversity of American cinema, from major Hollywood productions to independent cinema films, and never ceases to discover new talents.

Deauville and the cinema: a beautiful love story

Since it was brought to light in the legendary film Un homme et une femme by Claude Lelouch, cinema has been intrinsically linked to the seaside resort of Deauville. Every year, since the creation of the Festival, tributes are paid to the most outstanding personalities of 7th American Art on the Planches de Deauville, a famous promenade that runs along the beach, where their names are inscribed there.

New since 2021: the festival opens a window on French cinema

Over time, the American Film Festival of Deauville has created a strong and intimate link between France and the United States, the two founding nations of cinema. For its 47th edition, the Festival was going further by opening a window on French cinema, with a selection of 6 films presented in preview, including 5 world premieres, which will be added to the 70 American films presented this year. For this edition, which will be held from September 1st to 11th, the jury will be chaired by the French productor, realisator, director and actor Guillaume Canet. Clémence Poésy will chair the Revelation jury. The rising star of American cinema Emilia Clarke, made famous by her role in the famous series Game of Thrones, will be awarded the New Hollywood Prize on the evening of September 4th.

A festival for the public

Second largest film festival in France, just after Cannes, the American Film Festival of Deauville is the only European festival of this scale to open its doors directly to the public, favoring meetings between professionals and film enthusiasts. In addition, it is still today the only European festival to offer screenings to the general public and moviegoers 24 hours a day (!) throughout its duration. Indeed, a programming schedule allows everyone to see the Festival selection and meet the teams, then give their opinion after each screening. The Audience Prize will be awarded to the most popular film. Finally, meet on the famous Planches de Deauville to approach the personalities of American 7th Art to whom special homage will be paid.
